Save Labor Costs by Installing One Layer Instead of Two!
Precision Fabrication Maintains Exact Offset at All Joints

EXTOL Proven Products

Extol, in business since 1962, has specialized in providing quality fabricated insulation systems for the food and beverage, chemical, petro-chemical, refining, pharmaceutical and energy industries. We use cellular, rigid materials to supply constant thermal performance plus moisture and corrosion resistance.

Labor Savings

Extol of Ohio, Inc. furnishes a precision fabricated shiplap on all butt and longitudinal joints of pipe covering, fittings and curved sidewall segments. The longitudinal joints have a 'key type joint', while the ends have a 'male/female' connection.

"Excel-Lap" was developed to provide an economical factory-fabricated insulation system which lowers labor costs upon installation by allowing the benefits of a double layer application in just one layer for certain cold applications.

Additionally, "Excel-Lap" is easier to use than 'shiplap and spline' construction. The construction of the 'Excel-lap' eliminates the long, thin spline pieces which often broke or had to be fitted into each half section of pipe covering.

Vapor barrier jackets may be attached in the factory with a contact adhesive. Application steps are simplified, resulting in additional labor savings as compared to shiplap and spline fabrication.

Fabrication

All insulation materials; Cellular Glass, Isocyanurate, Perlite and Phenolic conform to the exacting fabrication tolerances of ASTM C450 and C585. Minimum wall thickness of insulation is 2", Maximum is 3" thick.

"Excel-Lap" Advantages

Double layer insulation is achieved in one application when installing "Excel-Lap". This reduces the labor required to complete the project.

Precut shiplap joints define only one method of installation application. Thus assuring that all joints in your cold system are "staggered".These inter-locking joints eliminate through joints to the pipe upon installation. The risk of moisture, frost or ice buildup is reduced.

Fittings tend to present the greatest problem area in any installation. The shiplap on the throat, heel and ends insure against thermal breaks to the pipe. Our two piece fittings conform to the shape of the fitting AND the metal or plastic cover.

"Excel-Lap" guarantees a tight fit at the joints. This will protect the joint sealant from the cold pipe surface, prolonging the service life of the sealant.

"Excel-Lap" Uses

Any pipeline system which operates at a temperature that typically requires double layer insulation.

Long, straight runs of piping* provide the greatest economic benefit during installation.

(*Maintain Proper Expansion / Contraction Joint Spacing per Material Manufacturers Recommendation)

"Excel-Lap" Limitations

Lines which cycle on a regular basis from hot to cold should maintain double layer insulation construction to accommodate expansion and contraction of material.

Cryogenic systems are excluded.

Reduce Energy Expenditures

The offset is 1" wide and 1" long. Our tooling assures a tight, close fit that limits heat gain and provides a thermally efficient insulation system.

Call us or Email for help with an Energy Analysis of your specific application. The return on investment information may aid in the justification of expenditures for insulation upgrades to your facility or for your client.

Other Capabilities

Extol provides an "Entire Insulation System" for your application. The "Excel-lap" form of pipecovering, elbows, tees, valves and curved sidewall segments provide an initial barrier to moisture ingress.

Extol's recommended insulation specification incorporate appropriate accessories, such as;weather and vapor barriers and cladding, mastics and caulkings that are compatible with each insulation product.
